Becker, Edberg Have Top 2 Seedings in Men’s Tournament at Indian Wells
Boris Becker, ranked No. 3 in the world, is seeded No. 1 in the $702,500 Newsweek Champions Cup tennis tournament, which begins today at Hyatt Grand Champions.
Becker, the two-time defending champion, has a first-round bye. He will play the winner of today’s match between wild card Danie Visser and Luiz Mattar.
Stefan Edberg of Sweden is seeded second. Edberg was defeated Sunday by Ivan Lendl in the final at Scottsdale, Ariz.
The rest of the players seeded in the first 10 are Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Jakob Hlasek, Tim Mayotte, Miloslav Mecir, Thomas Muster, Aaron Krickstein and Brad Gilbert.
Gilbert plays Jan Gunnarsson, a semifinalist in the Australian Open, in the second match on the clubhouse court.
