College Roundup : Lasher Sparks Titans Past Japanese Team
Bill Lasher hit a two-run double to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 7-2 victory over Keio University of Japan Sunday in an exhibition baseball game at Fullerton.
The Titans scored five runs in the third inning, which was capped by Lasher’s double. Matt McElreath had a solo home run in the inning.
The Titans used four pitchers, including Tim Spencer, who pitched two innings in relief for the victory.
Keio, which is 0-4 on its tour, will play USC today, UCLA on Tuesday and UC Irvine on Thursday.
In Big West Conference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 5-0, Fresno State 4-8--Kerri Donis and Debbie Hartwig each drove in two runs to lead the Titans in the first game. Donis had RBI singles in the first and fifth. Hartwig hit a two-run double in the fifth. In the second game, former Edison High School star Terry Carpenter (8-1) threw a two-hitter for Fresno State.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Chapman 5, Nevada Reno 1--Olivier Amerlinck defeated Steve Bock, 6-3, 7-6, to lead Chapman (8-5) at UC Davis.
