Compton : Forum to Be Held Saturday for Municipal Candidates
A forum for candidates seeking municipal office in Compton will be held Saturday at the Sizzler restaurant on East Compton Boulevard across the street from City Hall.
All 23 candidates have been invited to speak at the forum, which is open to the public, said Willy Curry, president of the Compton Chapter of the NAACP. The NAACP and three Democratic Party clubs are sponsoring the 5 p.m. event.
Royce Esters, who is running for mayor, says he plans to bring some campaign help with him Saturday. Esters’ nephew, Ricky Turner, a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and former football star at Compton High School and Washington State University, is coming to town to endorse his uncle.
Esters is running against incumbent Mayor Walter R. Tucker and three other candidates.
