A man in his 40s who injured his neck and back while bodysurfing at Crystal Cove State Park on Sunday was reported in serious condition at Hoag Hospital.
The victim’s identity, age and residence could not be immediately learned “because he was unconscious when he was brought to shore,” said a lifeguard.
According to a County Fire Department spokesman, the man was seen floating and obviously injured in the surf about 1 p.m. The accident took place off the cliff-lined park, which is between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.
The man was airlifted to Hoag Hospital by a Marine Corps helicopter.
