Indiana coach Bob Knight, who led his squad through a shaky early season to take the Big Ten basketball championship, is the conference’s coach of the year, the league announced today.

The Hoosiers finished the regular season at 25-7 and 15-3 in the Big Ten under Knight. They are one of the Sweet 16 teams still in the NCAA tournament and face Seton Hall on Thursday in Denver.

Indiana’s season got off to a faltering start, with the Hoosiers finding themselves at 3-4 after seven games. In three of those games, opposing teams scored 100 points or more, only the second time that has happened to a team coached by Knight.

Knight received 334 points from the writers and broadcasters who cover the Big Ten, outdistancing second-place finisher Steve Yoder of Wisconsin, who received 154 points.
