Actress Meryl Streep has been invited to hear the other side of the apple safety story from the head of the nation’s largest apple processing company. “We understand that Meryl Streep, as a mother, has real concerns, and she has done an effective job of airing them in television studios and Congressional hearing rooms,” Tree Top president Dennis Colleran said in a telegram to the actress. “But the fact remains our 3,500 growers and 1,500 employees are paying the price. In fairness, I think Meryl Streep owes them the courtesy to hear both sides of the story.” Colleran pointed out that Tree Top banned Alar-treated apples three years ago.
