The Tokyo String Quartet will open the Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society’s expanded 30th season on Oct. 7 at Laguna Beach High School, society officials announced Wednesday.
The society has incorporated a Young Artists concert into the 1989-90 main series, raising the season’s concert total to seven.
Last year, the society had scheduled four Young Artists concerts for general audiences and four in-school performances. But for next year it has decided to offer all but one of six Young Artists concerts in the public schools.
Dates and ensembles for the Chamber Music Society’s 1989-90 series are:
-- Oct. 7: Tokyo String Quartet.
-- Oct. 26: Prague String Quartet.
-- Nov. 19: Bowdoin Piano Trio.
-- Feb. 8, 1990: Pasquier String Trio, with guest pianist Menahem Pressler.
-- March 4: Atlantic Brass Quintet, a Young Artists presentation.
-- March 11: Tashi String Quartet, with guest clarinetist Richard Stoltzman.
-- April 26: Laurentian String Quartet.
Repertory will be announced later. All programs will be held at 8 p.m. at the high school, 625 Park Ave.
Series tickets will be $100. Tickets for a half-series, made up of four concerts, will be $60. Subscribers can choose half-series of either the Tokyo, Bowdoin, Tashi and Atlantic concerts or the Prague, Pasquier, Laurentian and Atlantic concerts.
