Long Beach : Nonprofit Agencies Sought for Youth Meals Program
Long Beach city officials are trying to find nonprofit agencies that will assist with a summer program to give nutritious free meals to youngsters.
The Parks and Recreation Department has applied to the U.S. Department of Agriculture to administer the Summer Food Service Program for children. The program provides meals to youngsters under the age of 18.
Private agencies or churches are needed, however, to distribute the food, parks spokeswoman Karen Soma Melkonian said.
The meal service is scheduled to run from July 2 to Sept. 1.
