SEVILLE, Spain —
Malta was defeated by Spain 4-0 in a Group 6 World Soccer Cup qualification match today.
The victory almost certainly secured Spain a spot in the World Cup final in Italy in 1990. The result kept Spain at the top of the group, which also includes Hungary, Ireland and Northern Ireland. The top two teams in the five-nation group will qualify for the World Cup final.
