Local News in Brief : Camarillo Names New Finance Director
The city of Camarillo, which two years ago lost $25 million in risky investments, has ended a 13-month search for a finance director by hiring a Long Beach official.
Robert W. Cole, 46, will resign as a financial management officer for the Long Beach Water Department to take over the Camarillo position May 1. Cole replaces former finance director Larry Weaver, who resigned in February, 1988.
Weaver resigned after a subordinate, City Treasurer Donald Tarnow, was fired for making investments that resulted in the loss. An interim finance director, C. Robert Green, then took over.
In December, Camarillo officials hired an executive recruiting firm to aid in the search to fill the position, which pays about $55,000 to $67,000 annually.
