Italian Easter Cake Carried Big Bang
Workers at a cement company discovered explosives inside an Easter cake sent to their boss in an apparent extortion attempt, police said Friday.
The extortion racket apparently was linked to the Naples Mafia, police said.
Two unidentified men on Thursday delivered a colomba --a special Italian Easter cake--addressed to Pasquale Raucci, the owner of a cement company in Mercogliano, about 25 miles northeast of Naples.
On opening the package, workers found the cake contained a detonator and slow-burning fuse. They called police who defused the bomb.
Raucci, 44, has recently received anonymous telephone threats telling him to cancel work contracts in the Port of Naples area, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
