IN BRIEF : Lemieux Named Week’s Top Player

MONTREAL — Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux, who had seven goals and four assists in four games, was named NHL player of the week today. Lemieux, the league’s top goal-scorer with 79, had his eighth three-goal game of the season Saturday in a 5-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils. The next night, he had two goals and two assists as the Penguins beat the New York Rangers 6-4 and moved into second place in the Patrick Division.
