Pope and U.S. Catholics
After following in the press and through TV interviews the details of our 35 American bishops’ visit to Rome, it appears evident to us and to so many others that the Vatican speaks only to the Vatican. In short, the Vatican loves to teach but is unwilling to learn. To Rome, the voice of the laity, of women--especially women scholars--of priests, and even of some of our bishops, means nothing.
It is a great sadness to us that at a time when the whole world yearns for inspiration, the Vatican chooses to foster its own agenda. It is the circle that will heal the church, not the patriarchal line.
