What We Eat

Share

In response to Jack Smith’s article, “Reflections on Our Animal Appetites” (March 22), Jack touches but a tiny fraction of an enormously sad and embarrassing iceberg that the meat, dairy and egg industries do not want us to be informed about. Why is it that unbiased sources of dietary information like the American Heart Assn., American Cancer Society and a multitude of other organizations suggest approximately the same types of diets, such as more fruit, vegetables, complex carbohydrates, more fiber and more exercise, yet we believe the biased approach coming directly from those who profit from undermining our health, inhumanely raise and slaughter animals, do enormous environmental destruction, use abhorrent amounts of hormones, drugs and chemicals which we in turn eat, all under the guise of “good health?” Are we this ignorant and gullible? Apparently.

Animal products are high in fat, cholesterol and low in fiber--these are facts.

In America, everyone has the right to be ignorant if one so chooses; obviously many believe in that right.
