Rookie Paul Wright scored twice in the third period and Waad Hirmez and Zoran Karic each added two goals to lead the Sockers to a 7-3 victory over the Lazers Sunday night.

Wright, who has six goals this season, sandwiched his goals around a score by the Lazers’ Doug Neely to give the Sockers a 5-2 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Lazers inserted Daryl Doran as a sixth attacker in place of goalie Jim Gorsek with 9:28 to go and Doran assisted on a goal by Jim Gabarra at 8:29.

Doran remained in the game but Hirmez and Karic each scored into the empty net in the last 1:10.

The Lazers, 19-24, lost their third straight match and fell into last place in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

It was the third straight victory for the Sockers (24-19) and lifted them five games above .500 for the first time this season, and moved them within two games of the first-place Baltimore Blast with five matches left for each team.

Gary Heale scored for the Lazers 53 seconds into the second quarter, but Karic countered with his first goal just 1:04 later for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Hirmez has seven goals in the three games against the Lazers since they traded him to San Diego.
