The 6-year-old son of Sen. Albert Gore Jr. (D-Tenn.) was in serious condition today after he was hit by a car near Memorial Stadium while leaving the Orioles’ opening day baseball game.

Police said Albert Gore III was trying to cross a street several blocks east of the stadium at 6:25 p.m. Monday when he ran into the roadway and was hit by a car. A witness told police that the youngster let go of his father’s hand as he approached a curb and ran into the street.

Albert was in serious but stable condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital with a broken rib and broken left thigh, a ruptured spleen, a bruised lung and a concussion.
