Emilio Nicolas Jr. will become general manager of KMEX Channel 34 on April 17, a station owned and operated by the all-Spanish Univision network. Nicolas, 35, fills the post vacated by Daniel Villanueva, who announced his retirement from KMEX last month. Nicolas is currently general manager of WXTV Channel 41 in New York and former general manager of KDTV Channel 14 in San Francisco, both Univision owned-and-operated stations. “His (Nicolas’) commitment to the company has been demonstrated many times over and his vast station management experience will benefit our flagship station in many ways,” said Bill Grimes, president and chief executive officer of Univision Holdings Inc., the network’s parent corporation. Villanueva is retiring June 1 after 18 years as KMEX’s general manager. Villanueva will continue in a corporate consulting capacity with Univision Holdings.
