Consolidated Rail Corp. named James A. Hagen as its new chairman, president and chief executive, effective May 18. Hagen, 57, is also a nominee for election as a director at the company’s annual shareholders meeting in Philadelphia on May 17.

Hagen, now president and chief executive of CSX Distribution Services Group, part of CSX Corp., was Conrail’s senior vice president of marketing and sales from February, 1977, until March, 1985.

He will succeed Acting Chairman, President and Chief Executive Stanley E.G. Hillman. Hillman, a member of Conrail’s board, took the interim position Feb. 15 after the death of Richard D. Sanborn, who had served as Conrail’s chairman, president and chief executive only since Jan. 1 this year.
