Long Beach Boxer ‘Outstanding’ at Colorado Springs
Jeremy Williams, 16, of Long Beach, was named the outstanding heavyweight during last week’s U.S. Amateur Boxing Championships at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Williams, a junior at Poly High School, won the final with a 3-2 decision over Richard Bonds of Ripley, Tenn.
Williams won five bouts during the tournament.
The youngest champion at the meet, the 178-pound Williams earned a berth at the Olympic Festival in July at Oklahoma City.
Williams, who has vowed to become Olympic heavyweight champion at Barcelona in 1992, is trained by his father, Charles Williams, and fights out of the American Fitness Gym in downtown Long Beach.
