P. M. BRIEFING : Malaysia to Buy 16 Boeing 737s

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia —
Malaysia Airlines System has ordered 16 Boeing 737 jetliners costing a total of more than $400 million from the Seattle-based Boeing Co., MAS Managing Director Aziz Abdul Rahman said today.
The 10 Boeing 737-400 and six Boeing 737-500 aircraft will replace the state-controlled airline’s 12 Boeing 737-200 planes, which were bought in 1972, Aziz told the official Bernama news agency. He said that the sales agreement will be signed in May and that the aircraft will be delivered by the end of 1992. The 737-200s will be auctioned off.
