New Fire Station No. 55 Is Dedicated

A new $1.3-million fire station intended to serve the Eagle Rock and Mt. Washington communities was dedicated Thursday by Fire Chief Donald Manning, who said the opening of Fire Station 55, at 4455 York Blvd., begins the second phase of the department’s Fire Station Replacement Program.

Fifteen fire stations will eventually be replaced to meet the city’s needs for expanded fire protection and emergency medical services, Manning said.

“The station will initially house a single-piece engine company and a paramedic rescue ambulance,” Manning said. “It was designed to accommodate additional resources as the needs of the community increase.”

The 7,100-square-foot, split-level structure was built on the site of the original fire station that served the area from 1924 to 1987, Manning said.
