Noise Regulations at Wayne Airport

Share

Look up! It isn’t Superman! It isn’t a bird! It is a plane! A loud, noisy plane from John Wayne Airport violating the noise abatement regulations on a regular basis.

As the warm weather brings us outdoors and we open our windows, we become more aware of the continuing encroachment by the aircraft from the airport. The planes are noisy. There are more private corporate jets who do not appear to be regulated (or care about it) by the noise abatement regulations. The commercial flights seem to be more frequent. And they certainly are not flying over Newport Bay when they reach the coastline.

The expansion of John Wayne Airport is just going to bring bigger airplanes with heavier loads and more noise to the Corona del Mar area.

We no longer seem to care. Are we overwhelmed? Have we lost our will to fight? If so, then we deserve what is happening.

I am choosing to continue to fight before I am forced out of my neighborhood by the intrusion of aircraft.

I urge those who feel the same way to contact their local city, county and federal representatives and also to write to the airlines flying out of John Wayne to let them know that you object to the airline industry’s continuing abuse of noise abatement standards.

It is almost impossible to roll back the clock, but we still might have a chance for a semi-civilized existence under the airport traffic if we remain united, firm and resolute in the effort to prevent further abuse of these standards.

I suggest that the reader just take a drive up to Playa del Rey, which lies under LAX takeoff patterns. This beautiful beach area, now barren, was once the site of lovely homes. Stop your car; stand there for a few minutes while the aircraft zoom overhead; and realize that such a prospect is realistic for Corona del Mar by the year 2000.
