Two house fires this weekend caused $250,000 in damage each but no injuries, officials reported Sunday.

In a fire at 1:34 p.m. Sunday at a house on Kroeger Avenue, damage amounted to $150,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the contents, said Sylvia Palmer, public information officer for the city. She said the single-story house is owned by Michael and Kathy Hammer.

“The Hammers were having a new wood parquet floor installed at the time, and fumes from an adhesive being used were ignited by a water heater pilot light,” Palmer said.

The unidentified man who was installing the floor escaped without injury, Palmer said. The blaze was brought under control at 2 p.m., she said.

In a fire at 6:19 p.m. Friday at a house on Maurine Place, damage amounted to $125,000 to the structure and $125,000 to the contents, Palmer said. She said the owner, Joe Romo, was not home and no one else was hurt in the fire, which was brought under control at 6:36 p.m.

Palmer said the cause of the fire in the single-story home was an electrical malfunction in a wall.
