Fight in N. Hollywood Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Hurt
An argument in a North Hollywood neighborhood escalated into a fight that left one man dead and a second man critically injured, police said Monday.
Jose Cruz, 21, of North Hollywood died shortly after midnight Sunday, three hours after police found him and a second man sprawled on a sidewalk at Stagg Street and Irvine Avenue, said Detective Mike Coffey of the Los Angeles Police Department. Both men were shot several times, Coffey said.
The second man, Felipe Hernandez, 22, of Pacoima is listed in critical condition at St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Neighbors called police shortly before 9 p.m. after they heard men fighting and yelling, and then gunshots, Coffey said. The assailants had fled by the time police arrived, he said.
