Formal Offer Sought on Stadium Rent
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday asked the Irwindale City Council to formalize an offer to pay $35 to $40 million over a 30-year period for use of county-leased land for parking for the proposed Los Angeles Raiders football stadium.
The initial offer was made in a letter by Irwindale City Manager Charles Martin to Supervisor Pete Schabarum on March 28, but supervisors said they will take it seriously only after the council votes to back it. Irwindale needs the land, now leased by the county from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for parking at a site preferred by the Raiders--west of the Irwindale Avenue exit on the north side of the Foothill Freeway.
The city has also considered moving to a stadium site on privately owned land, but has been unable to secure the approval of Raiders owner Al Davis.
