Man Charged in Shooting
A 32-year-old El Monte man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting Friday of a Redondo Beach man who was leaving his Torrance business on Hawthorne Boulevard.
Henry Ngo Wu, accompanied by his attorney, surrendered to Torrance police at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and is being held without bail on suspicion of shooting Jonathan Baron, a vice president of CCH Computax Inc.
Police declined to discuss the motive for the attack.
Torrance police Sgt. Jack McDonald said Wu was lying in wait for Baron, 36, when the businessman left work just after 6 p.m. Friday. Baron was shot as he approached his car in the parking garage behind Centre Point Plaza, an office building south of the intersection of Hawthorne and Torrance boulevards.
Wu’s surrender should not be construed as an admission of guilt, said his attorney, Howard Beckler, who declined to discuss the case.
Baron, who directs product development for the tax processing firm, remains in serious condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
