Sidelined RTD Buses Go Back Into Service

Share

All 96 buses taken out of service last month because of a defect in the brackets supporting their rear axles will be back on the streets of Los Angeles by today, the Southern California Rapid Transit District said.

RTD General Manager Alan F. Pegg said Transportation Manufacturing Corp., which made the buses, and Rockwell International have developed a temporary retrofit bracket that will better support the rear axle with a secondary strap.

Permanent new brackets will be installed as soon as one is developed, Pegg said.

Fourteen of the TMC buses were returned to service on Wednesday, with others being reactivated through the rest of the week.

The buses were part of a fleet of 267 new ones acquired by RTD last August.
