Mulvey White; Ex-USC Vice President for Student Affairs

Share

Mulvey White, whose lifelong devotion to USC began when he was a student there in the 1920s and culminated in his being named vice president for student and alumni affairs more than 30 years later, died last Saturday. He was 83 and died at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

After graduating in 1931, White remained on campus in a variety of jobs: in the admissions office, as assistant to the counselor of men and as director of the employment bureau, which he helped establish.

He was a Navy supply officer during World War II, then worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. and a construction equipment firm before returning to USC in 1961 as vice president in charge of student and alumni affairs.

The directors of activities, admissions, student health services, athletics and alumni affairs reported to him. White left that post in 1970 but remained an administrative consultant.

A sister, two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren survive him. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. April 29 in the University Church at USC.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to a scholarship fund that has been established in White’s name through the alumni relations office.
