Georgia Women Barely Edge UCLA to Win NCAA Gymnastics Team Title

Corrinne Wright finished first and Lucy Wener tied for second in the all-around competition to lead Georgia to its second NCAA women’s gymnastics championship in three years Friday night.

The Bulldogs edged top-seeded UCLA by five-hundredths of a point, 192.65 to 192.60.

Wright won the all-around title with 38.90 points, and Tanya Service of UCLA got a share of second place with Wener, each with 38.70 points.

Jill Andrews of UCLA and Melissa Millie of Florida tied for fourth with 38.65 apiece; Kim Masters of Alabama was sixth with 38.60, and Kim Hamilton of UCLA and Karli Urban of Arizona State tied for seventh with 38.50 each.

Individual competition will be held tonight, when Hamilton will try to become the first woman to win three straight national titles, in the floor exercise.
