Rosenfield on Proposition 103

Share

Rosenfield is not the only one who is upset that his beloved Proposition 103 has not been fully implemented. As someone who works in the insurance industry and deals with the public daily, I can assure him that there are many, many consumers who are equally upset.

Prop. 103 is an opportunity for the insurance industry. We have heard the message. Our customers, especially those in the urban/suburban Los Angeles-Orange County area, are paying too much for auto insurance. They don’t want to know why, and they don’t understand very well when we try to explain.

What they voted for, and what they are asking for now is a change. We fully intend to give them that change. With help from consumer groups we hope to persuade the Legislature and the governor that regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision on the constitutionality of Prop. 103, we need to give the insurance-buying public a choice of the insurance product that best suits their needs. We believe that cost savings of 30-40% are feasible. With a little more patience, California consumers can soon have an insurance product that suits their individual needs, at a true, long-term savings.
