Room Rate Discounts

One of the major Las Vegas resort hotels, the lavish Tropicana, is offering the mature traveler a 25% discount per room per night, regardless of published room rate, for an indefinite period in honor of its 30th anniversary.

Besides all the accouterments of the typical Las Vegas resort, it has one of the most popular and longest-running production shows in the state of Nevada, the “Folies Bergere.”

In addition to the discounted room rate the Tropicana will give senior guests a 25% discount on the Folies Bergere dinner or cocktail show, the same discount on all meals in its Island Buffet and discounts on golf.

Another popular destination for mature travelers is Palm Springs, where an “End of the Winter” holiday is being offered by the Wyndham Palm Springs resort hotel. The Wyndham is within easy walking distance of Palm Canyon Drive, the city’s main shopping thoroughfare.

Seniors will get a 50% discount off regular rates, including a daily buffet breakfast. Discounts are also offered in the Wyndham’s restaurants.

Room discount prices are for two people, and regular rates quoted are minimums: through April 30, $77.50 (regular rate $155). For the month of May, $60 (regular rate $120). From June 1 to Sept. 30, $37.50 (regular rate $75). On Oct. 1, the rate becomes $60 (regular minimum $120).

The Wyndham boasts the largest pool and sun deck in Palm Springs, and provides such amenities as golf, tennis, health club, massage, hair salon and shops.

Brook Farm Inn, a 100-year-old restored B&B; in historic Lenox, Mass., is offering a 10% discount for seniors, except during July and August. Regular midweek rates begin at $55 per room a night during late summer and fall, higher on weekends.

Rates are for two people, including a full breakfast each day and English tea in the afternoon. Weekly rates (seven nights) for two from $350 to $765, depending on the season.

Brook Farm Inn has only 12 guest rooms, all with private bath and some with canopied beds and fireplaces. A large library holds 1,200 volumes of poetry and novels, and there is a heated swimming pool and garden.

Prominent attractions near the city of Lenox include the Berkshire Theatre Festival; Tanglewood, where the Boston Symphony frequently appears, and the Norman Rockwell Museum. Hiking and skiing areas are nearby.

Many mature travelers are planning vacation trips that serve two purposes--pleasure and relaxation, plus an opportunity to review various destinations as possible locations for retirement. National Retirement Concepts (NRC) has developed a series of such programs, which provide vacations with plenty of activities and a minimum of sales pitches.

NRC’s tours are limited to U.S. destinations. Trips are offered to Arizona, Arkansas and North Carolina. Later this spring NRC will add South Carolina and two Florida trips, one to the East Coast and one to the west.

None of the trips are tied in with any retirement community, and at each destination travelers are given tours of several such communities in order to make comparisons while they enjoy sightseeing and area attractions.

The North Carolina tour offers eight days and seven nights of first-class lodging, plus daily breakfast, three special-event dinners and deluxe motor coach or mini-coach transportation throughout the visit.

The land portion of this trip, including all of the above plus all taxes, tips and baggage handling, is $690 per person, double occupancy. Transportation to and from the destination is extra, and on request will be arranged at current available minimum cost by NRC.

The two other tours, also for eight days, include full daily breakfast, four lunches and three special-event dinners, plus all of the features described above. Arizona is priced at $655, and the other to Arkansas is $695, per person, land portion only.
