Morton Thiokol: The Chicago-based manufacturer and marketer of specialty chemicals, propulsion systems and salt reported that its third-quarter income fell to $487,000 from $41.5 million on a 17% increase in revenue to $708.7 million. The company said the cost of spinning off its commercial businesses from its aerospace business--as well as provisions made for the phase-out of a chemical operation and costs anticipated in connection with the cleanup of inactive waste disposal sites and related environmental matters--accounted for the decline in income.
