Brea : Police Shoot Teen-ager Suspected of Car Theft

Brea police shot and wounded a 17-year-old car theft suspect early Monday after the teen-ager appeared to point an unidentified weapon at officers during a chase, authorities said.

The youth suffered minor leg injuries, according to a Brea police spokesman.

Police declined to say how many officers were involved in the shooting and whether the suspect was armed when arrested. A car stolen in Fountain Valley was recovered, said police, who are seeking two other suspects who fled the scene of the shooting, near State College Boulevard and Live Oak Street.

The teen-ager, whose name was withheld because of his age, was treated at the scene by paramedics and then arrested on suspicion of auto theft. The early morning shooting occurred shortly after police tried to question the youth, police said.

Police said that Monday’s shooting, like all officer-involved shootings, is being investigated by the Orange County district attorney’s office.
