A 91-year-old man suffered a broken nose and several bruises to his head when he and his daughter were robbed at gunpoint Monday night outside the Christ Lutheran Church in Brea.

Louise Joseph, 59, of Fullerton and her father, Carl Johnson, were entering the church at 820 W. Imperial Blvd. at 9:08 p.m. when he was struck in the head with the butt of a pistol, said Larry Labrecht principal of Christ Lutheran Day School. Joseph, a kindergarten teacher at the school, which adjoins the church, was going there to catch up on some work.

Labrecht said Joseph was about to open the door “when she heard a commotion behind her and turned to see her father falling after being hit with the gun.” The two thieves demanded the keys to Joseph’s blue 1987 Nissan Maxima and fled in the car. Police have not found the car or the robbers.
