Actor Ben Vereen, national spokesman for A Drug Free America, told 4,000 student delegates at a World Drug Conference in Atlanta: “You are the heroes, you should be getting headlines. Too much attention is being given to the users.” The students responded with thunderous applause and a standing ovation. The conference was sponsored by PRIDE (National Parents’ Resource Institute for Drug Education). Vereen, who regularly visits drug-plagued inner-city schools to speak against drug use, also announced his support of an anti-drug march on Washington.
