A 91-year-old man suffered a broken nose and head bruises when he and his daughter were robbed at gunpoint outside Christ Lutheran Church in Brea.

Louise Joseph, 59, of Fullerton and her father, Carl Johnson, were entering the church at 820 W. Imperial Blvd. at 9:08 p.m. Monday when he was struck on the head with the butt of a pistol, said Larry Labrecht, principal of Christ Lutheran Day School. Joseph, a kindergarten teacher at the school, which adjoins the church, was going there to catch up on some work before classes today, Labrecht said.

Labrecht said Joseph was about to open the door “when she heard a commotion behind her and turned to see her father falling after being hit with the gun.”

Two robbers demanded the keys to Joseph’s blue 1987 Nissan Maxima and fled in the car. The California license is 2ERX657.

Police have not found the car or the robbers.

Johnson, who is from Florida and was visiting his daughter, was taken to Brea Community Hospital, where he received several stitches to his head. Joseph was not injured.
