NATION : Iowa Turns Out Ladies’ Night Light
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled today that Ladies’ Night promotions offering reduced prices to women violate laws against sex discrimination.
Legal experts said the ruling, based on a promotion at a greyhound race track, could be applied to restaurants, theaters, golf courses and other businesses that offer similar promotions in the state.
The court opinion noted that other states have had divergent rulings on the issue. Illinois courts have upheld such promotions; California has stricken them.
The high court ordered a man’s lawsuit against a Council Bluffs dog racing track reinstated, saying the law is clear and plain.
