The most requested song in Liver-pool since last Saturday’s British soccer tragedy has been “Ferry Across the Mersey,” the 1964 hit by Gerry and the Pacemakers. Now comes word that Paul McCartney will recut the record to benefit victims of the tragedy. He has recruited the chief Pacemaker, Gerry Marsden, along with Holly Johnson and The Christians for the recording which is expected to raise at least $5 million for the Hillsborough Disaster Appeal Fund. The new version will be out in two weeks and an accompanying video will include television footage of the disaster.
