Local News in Brief : Brothers Get Prison Terms in Death of Man
Two Pacoima brothers were sentenced to prison Friday in the stabbing death of a 26-year-old man during a dispute over a drug deal.
John Garcia, 22, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Dec. 18 killing of Freddie Ruiz and was sentenced to 11 years in prison by San Fernando Superior Court Judge Meredith C. Taylor. His brother, Rudy Garcia, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced by Taylor to four years in prison.
A third brother, 21-year-old Kirk Garcia, also pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon in the slaying and was sentenced earlier to three years in prison.
The victim was attacked outside the San Fernando Gardens housing project after an argument concerning the drug deal, Nison said.
