A 3-year-old boy died of injuries suffered Monday when he was hit as he ran in front of a slow-moving auto in a Garden Grove alley, police said.

The child, Francisco Alzaga, “ran out right in front of the car” in an alley south of an apartment in the 11600 block of Stuart Drive, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Harlen Hanson said.

The boy was rushed to Garden Grove Medical Center where he died of his injuries, Hanson said.

“The (boy’s) father parked in the alley and went in the apartment and was walking out with the child and the mother,” Hanson said. “The child ran out in the alley toward the father’s car and was struck by the westbound vehicle.”

Hanson said the child’s father, Francisco H. Alzaga of Garden Grove, who is divorced from the boy’s mother, had come to the apartment to pick up his son for a visit. The child’s mother, Camillia Serano of Anaheim, was walking with the father and son when the boy darted into the path of the oncoming car, which was traveling about 10 to 15 m.p.h., Hanson said.

The 29-year-old Fontana man who was driving was not cited. “There are no charges pending,” Hanson said.
