When Boehm Porcelain Gallery opened its South Coast Plaza store last October, it apparently was a smart move.

The upscale sculpture and porcelain art studio recently reported that sales for the 3 months ended Jan. 31 were 40% higher at the South Coast outlet than at any of the Trenton, N.J., company’s four other galleries.

The dollar amount of the average sale at the Costa Mesa gallery was double that of the other stores, said Frank Cosentino, the firm’s president.

Specific numbers were not released.

Cosentino traced the store’s apparent success to sales of several major works late last year. They included a bronze American eagle that went for $24,000 and two porcelain American Eagles that had carried price tags of $13,750 apiece.

The company’s other galleries are in Trenton, New York, Chicago and Dallas.
