SOUTH BEND, Ind. —
A squad of 11 Notre Dame wrestlers will compete in the Soviet Union next month, the first tour of that nation by a major U.S. college wrestling team, the university announced.
The Irish wrestlers will leave May 22 and return June 1. During their trip, they will compete against club and all-star teams from throughout the Soviet Union.
“It will be a great cultural exchange and a fantastic learning experience for our guys,” Notre Dame Coach Fran McCann said. “I’m just thrilled that we will be able to train with the Soviets and observe their methods of teaching.”
