Singing star Jeffrey Osborne will head the list of honorees at the NAACP’s 10th annual ACT-SO luncheon at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Los Angeles Hilton.

ACT-SO, an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, not only showcases top students but aims to encourage all black young people to strive in academic and cultural pursuits.

Funds raised at the luncheon will help to send 75 talented local high school students this summer to Detroit, where students in grades 9 through 12 will vie for cash and medals in the fields of art, science, mathematics and the humanities in the national ACT-SO competition.
