The Toronto-based IMAX Systems Corp. has announced the formation of a Natural History Film Unit to make wildlife films in the large-format Imax and Omnimax systems. Executive Producer of the unit will be former BBC executive Christopher Parsons, who served as executive producer on the acclaimed BBC series “The World About Us” and “Life On Earth.” “For the first time, we will be able to thrill people by showing them what it’s like to be in the middle of a huge emperor penguin colony in Antarctica or in the sea surrounded by a large congregation of hammerhead sharks,” said Parsons. Six films are currently in development, with location filming scheduled to begin in early 1990.
