Actress Whoopi Goldberg and musician-poet John Trudell will be among those performing at a Sunday memorial for political activist Abbie Hoffman, who died April 12. Dubbed “Steal This Wake,” as a take-off on Hoffman’s “Steal This Book,” the memorial will include speakers Anita Hoffman, Ron Kovic, author Daniel Ellsberg, author-activist Tim Leary, political satirist Paul Krassner, David Dellinger of the Chicago Seven, and Ramona Ripston, executive director of the Southern California American Civil Liberties Union. Also scheduled to speak is director Oliver Stone, who will present a film clip of Hoffmann that he is using in an upcoming movie on Kovic’s life. Organizers say other videos of Hoffman, including his last speech, and readings from his works by local actors and performers will be presented.
