Three men test-driving a new Lincoln Continental in the Crenshaw area briefly kidnaped a car salesman before the salesman escaped and the trio fled in the car, police said Monday.

Two of the men first asked to test-drive the $31,000 car at O’Connor Lincoln-Mercury shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles Police Detective Matthew Kuckowicz said. A short distance away from the Crenshaw Boulevard dealership, the two men asked to stop the car and pick up a third man, Kuckowicz said.

When the third man pulled out a handgun, the salesman, whose name was withheld, jumped from the car, leaped a nearby fence and ran away, Kuckowicz said.

“When our salesman saw the gun he got scared because he thought the guy was going to shoot him in the car,” said Wayne Wiles, sales manager at the dealership.
