Thirty Newport Beach city officials and Rotary and Jaycee club members will leave for Okazaki, Japan, on Sunday to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Newport and Okazaki becoming sister cities and the 25th anniversary of the Okazaki South Rotary Club.
The group represents the Newport Beach Sister City Assn. and will include former mayor Doreen Marshall, Building Director Ray Schuller, Jaycees’ President Mark Cleary, Sister City President Wendell Fish and Miss Newport Beach Tanya Newbould.
The group will tour Tokyo for three days and then attend the sister city programs May 11 to 15.
The Newport Beach City Council adopted Okazaki as a sister city in 1984. Okazaki is about 200 miles southwest of Tokyo. The purpose of the program is to help promote greater international understanding and to develop direct association with foreign cities.
