Norwalk Asks Halt to Freeway Project
The Norwalk City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a resolution requesting that Caltrans stop construction on the Interstate 105 Freeway within city boundaries.
City Manager Richard R. Powers said the off-ramp system leading to a Park and Ride lot and a light rail station at the eastern end of the freeway will put too much traffic on city streets.
City officials are scheduled to meet Thursday in Sacremento with Caltrans officials and state Sen. Cecil Green (D-Norwalk) to discuss an alternate route.
Powers said the city would also explore the possibility of obtaining a court order to stop construction of the freeway, if a compromise is not reached.
Caltrans officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
