Red Sox pitcher Dennis (Oil Can) Boyd was to be examined in Boston after complaining of a lack of feeling in his right hand.

The right-hander, scheduled to start for the Red Sox against Texas at home on Saturday, flew home late Wednesday after his teammates had defeated the Chicago White Sox 8-4.

Boyd was scheduled to throw between starts at Comiskey Park Wednesday but could not continue after throwing a couple of pitches, Red Sox Manager Joe Morgan said.

“When he (Boyd) went out to warm up, he just couldn’t do it,” Morgan said. “He said he had that cold feeling in his hand again.”

Boyd has had chronic shoulder problems and sat out most of last season with an injury to his right shoulder.
