Inconsistencies Seen in Beach Curfew Call

Share

I was outraged when I read “Newport on Way to 11 p.m. Beach Curfew” (April 26). These “poor” oceanfront residents say they are kept awake by loud cars and people on the beach. Yet they recommend helicopters and floodlights to solve the problems, as if these wouldn’t keep them awake.

Yes, even I will admit that among us peaceful midnight beachcombers there are a few rowdies now and then. However, to make the curfew even earlier than it is would be a waste of energy because the rowdies could care less what the curfew is and would be there anyway.

Finally, just because these people’s homes are on the beach, it does not make the beach theirs. I happen to like midnight strolls on the beach, and I don’t think these people have the right to take the beach away from the rest of the world just because it’s 11 p.m.
